Why you have to just win the vote with issues

. Great points about how the Hispanic vote went Republican. Core issues were abortion and gay marriage against the conservatives and religious.

First seek to understand

. Well folks in the Democratic party already have tons of prescriptions. From our experience as marketing people, that doesn't make much sense. First seek to understand and then to be understood. This book I think begins to help.

Also understanding moderate Republicans also does. Finding things they want and giving it to them is key. Rather than trying to convince folks.

This book is really required reading, I think before you can talk about solutions for 2008. It is interesting to see how many folks have come to me with answers before they know what people want.

Post Election

CIC Canada | Immigrate to Canada. Can you believe that Connie seriously asked me about this.

We'll see if it isn't a good backup plan :-) It never hurts to be prepared for dual citizenship

Bin Laden's Strategy

CNN.com - Bin Laden: Goal is to bankrupt U.S. - Nov 1, 2004 No one ever said Bin Laden is stupid. Its a classic guerrila play, be assymetric. The US spends $100B a year in Iraq so bleed it to death

"We are continuing this policy in bleeding America to the point of bankruptcy. Allah willing, and nothing is too great for Allah," bin Laden said in the transcript.

He said the mujahedeen fighters did the same thing to the Soviet Union in Afghanistan in the 1980s, "using guerrilla warfare and the war of attrition to fight tyrannical superpowers."

He also said al Qaeda has found it "easy for us to provoke and bait this administration."

"All that we have to do is to send two mujahedeen to the furthest point east to raise a piece of cloth on which is written al Qaeda, in order to make generals race there to cause America to suffer human, economic and political losses without their achieving anything of note other than some benefits for their private corporations," bin Laden said.

Mobile and CNN Portal for Election Results

RTV Mobile Portal. Rock the Volt is running a cool mobile portal. Key in www.rtvmo.com into your so friendly wap browser to see what's happening.

CNN is going to have updates as well and they have just an awesome portal for election results where you can look at races you want and see the overall electoral map.

Did you know Electoral-Vote.com is run by Andrew Tanenbaum. I learned most of my computer science from his textbooks. He lives in the Netherlands now and runs a pretty cool systems program. Focused on security. Kind of neat that it is a real hitter in computer science doing the estimates.

COULD KERRY BE HEADED FOR A BIG MARGIN WIN?

Too many things have happened within the past week that give me a gut
level feel, Kerry may win by a decent margin.

First, last week’s dinner with Greg Valliere, Chief Strategist, Washington Research Group. No doubt you’ve seen Greg on CNN and CNBC. He’s smart, he’s balanced, no axe to grind. During dinner in Chicago last Wednesday he gave my son Andy and I a view into his world. Greg talks to everyone. He told us Kerry has real momentum and just the news events momentum. Greg has been crossing the country for the past several weeks, he’s ‘out there’.
He talks directly to the pollsters. He knows them. He says they’re “afraid” because they don’t trust their own numbers. They can’t account for the new voter registrations and they are reluctant to declare their inkling that the Democrats are winning the new voters war, because they have no way of validating their ‘inkling’.

And get this, Greg told Andy and I he’s for Kerry but can’t say so publicly (of course).. Watch him tomorrow early am as he co-hosts Squawk Box for a three hour Election Day Special.

Second, my son Jeff was in Ohio this past weekend Getting Out the Vote. Jeff’s report: thousands of volunteers, making thousands of calls. People on the other end of the phone are for Kerry. Jeff said he and his team seldom came across Bush supporters.

Finally, a report today from my friend Chris Dunn, Deputy Director of the Get Out the Vote effort in New Mexico. Chris has been a foot soldier in every major campaign for the past 20 plus years. He’s seen it all. His impression, “I’ve never seen anything like it”. They have more volunteers for Kerry than places to put them and phones to put to their mouths. Kerry volunteers have taken over New Mexico. Chris says that when the press comes into their volunteer centers, they are amazed by the numbers.. The press told Chris that when they go into the Bush Volunteer Center the Bush .people are ‘excited’ to see them because at first they think the press are volunteers!

‘There’s something happening here’

Latest Polls

Current Electoral Vote Predictor 2004. Well this guy was up all night compiling polls. There were no less than 50 done on Halloween.

Here is how it looks Kerry 298 to Bush 231. The big variables are that Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida are all statistically tied. He's estimating that Pennsylvania will probably go Kerry and Ohio to Bush, so it is Florida all over again.

Most interesting data is on the youth vote. Zogby did an SMS poll of 3,000 young votes, they were 55% Kerry. But, no one knows if they'll actually show up at the polls or have a brewski and watch starsky and hutch.

In some ways it is great that so much depends on folks that we are leaving the country too. Now let's see if people are motivated to actually vote. Registration is easy, you do it in line at the university bookstore, but voting is different.

Fingers crossed.
