COULD KERRY BE HEADED FOR A BIG MARGIN WIN?

Too many things have happened within the past week that give me a gut
level feel, Kerry may win by a decent margin.

First, last week’s dinner with Greg Valliere, Chief Strategist, Washington Research Group. No doubt you’ve seen Greg on CNN and CNBC. He’s smart, he’s balanced, no axe to grind. During dinner in Chicago last Wednesday he gave my son Andy and I a view into his world. Greg talks to everyone. He told us Kerry has real momentum and just the news events momentum. Greg has been crossing the country for the past several weeks, he’s ‘out there’.
He talks directly to the pollsters. He knows them. He says they’re “afraid” because they don’t trust their own numbers. They can’t account for the new voter registrations and they are reluctant to declare their inkling that the Democrats are winning the new voters war, because they have no way of validating their ‘inkling’.

And get this, Greg told Andy and I he’s for Kerry but can’t say so publicly (of course).. Watch him tomorrow early am as he co-hosts Squawk Box for a three hour Election Day Special.

Second, my son Jeff was in Ohio this past weekend Getting Out the Vote. Jeff’s report: thousands of volunteers, making thousands of calls. People on the other end of the phone are for Kerry. Jeff said he and his team seldom came across Bush supporters.

Finally, a report today from my friend Chris Dunn, Deputy Director of the Get Out the Vote effort in New Mexico. Chris has been a foot soldier in every major campaign for the past 20 plus years. He’s seen it all. His impression, “I’ve never seen anything like it”. They have more volunteers for Kerry than places to put them and phones to put to their mouths. Kerry volunteers have taken over New Mexico. Chris says that when the press comes into their volunteer centers, they are amazed by the numbers.. The press told Chris that when they go into the Bush Volunteer Center the Bush .people are ‘excited’ to see them because at first they think the press are volunteers!
